Vol. 8 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY OCCUPATION OF MOATE PREMISES.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that an award of £35 10s. 0d. has been made to Mr. James Lally, Moate, Westmeath, in respect of damage done to his premises by military during their occupation, lasting ten weeks; whether having regard to the damage done, and the loss of trade sustained by this man during the occupation, he will have the case reconsidered with a view to having a more adequate amount awarded.

The claim made by Mr. James Lally, of Moate, Westmeath, in respect to damage done to his premises during the military occupation, was greatly exaggerated, being at the rate of £5,200 per annum for the use of accommodation in his premises as an officers' mess. The award of £35 10s., which has been accepted by him in final settlement, is a fair one, and does not call for review.
