CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BOY SCOUTS' CONTINGENT TO WEMBLEY.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Defence if the party described in the Press as "The Irish Free State contingent of Boy Scouts to the Imperial Jamboree at Wembley" is being sent there by his department or with the sanction of his department; if this party is representative of a military organisation, and if such organisation is under the control of the Department of Defence.

The Department of Defence understands that the Boy Scout organisation is not in any sense military in character. It is, therefore, not concerned with the organisation and takes no official cognisance of the doings of any of its members.

Is the Minister not aware that these Scouts are regarded as the eyes of the Army; is he in a position to know what particular Army this particular force intends to provide eyes for, and also, could he inform the House or lay documents on the Table showing what an "Imperial Jamboree" is?

I am afraid I cannot reply to the latter part of the question.
