asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that in Rural Districts the sewerages are a danger to the health of the citizens, and if grants will be made available to Committees, or Public Bodies, which will not be an addition to rates, for the improvements of such sewerages.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SEWERAGE IN RURAL DISTRICTS.
SEAN O LAIDHIN
MINISTER for INDUSTRY and COMMERCE (Mr. McGilligan) (on behalf of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health)
In many instances sewerage schemes are open to improvement. This is one of the matters of sanitation which would be benefited by the substitution, for existing Rural Sanitary Authorities, of a County Health Authority. It is not proposed to make any grants of the nature suggested.
The money would be well spent in doing the necessary repairs, and it would give employment. I intend to put down a more detailed question on the matter.
