Vol. 8 No. 15

DAIL EIREANN COURTS (WINDING UP) ACT, 1923 AMENDMENT BILL, 1924—FROM THE SEANAD. - AMENDMENT FROM THE SEANAD.

Immediately before Section 8 a new section inserted as follows:—
Nothing in this Act or in the principal Act shall have the effect of preventing any lands, the subject of proceedings before the Commissioners, from being dealt with by the Irish Land Commission under the Land Law or Land Purchase Acts or of abrogating or impairing any of the powers of the Irish Land Commission in respect thereto, whether such powers be exercised for the purpose of recovering arrears of purchase annuities or arrears of interest in lieu of rent, or for any other purpose for which they might have lawfully exercised such powers had this Act not been passed.

I move:—"That the Dáil agree with the Seanad in the said amendment." It was inserted at the instance of the Government, in the other House, on the advice and recommendation, I may say, of the Minister for Agriculture, in order to ensure that the Act would not cut across the powers of the Land Commission to proceed normally with their work. It was not quite clear that it would have that effect, but as a precaution, and to put the matter beyond any question of doubt, it was thought wise to insert the amendment.

Question put and agreed to.

A message will be sent to the Seanad accordingly.
