Vol. 8 No. 23

DAIL IN COMMITTEE. - TREATY (CONFIRMATION OF SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT) BILL, 1924—THIRD STAGE.

Would it not be necessary to pass your Resolution?

Which Resolution?

To suspend Standing Orders.

It does not appear to be necessary to pass any Resolution suspending Standing Orders to take the Committee Stage. That appears only to be necessary for the Fourth and Fifth Stages.

Will we not be entitled to have notice that the Committee Stage is coming on at a certain date?

If the Deputy would refer to a Standing Order—

SECTION 1.

Question—That Section 1 stand part of the Bill—put and agreed to.

SECTION 2.

(1) This Act may be cited as the Treaty (Confirmation of Supplemental Agreement) Act, 1924.

(2) This Act shall come into operation on the date on which the said Agreement set forth in the Schedule to this Act is confirmed by Act of the British Parliament or, if such Act is passed before the passing of this Act, shall come into operation on the passing of this Act.

I move:

In sub-section (2), line 18, to delete all from the words "on the date" to the end of the sub-section, and insert in lieu thereof the words "immediately on the passing thereof."

The amendment is introduced, because, as the Act is already passed by the British Parliament, it is not necessary to provide that it should again be passed by the Dáil.

Amendment put and agreed to.
Question—"That Section 2, as amended, stand part of the Bill"— put and agreed to.
Question—"That the Schedule and Title stand part of the Bill"—put and agreed to.
