Vol. 9 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILKENNY INTERNEES.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is proposed to bring any charge against Philip O'Dwyer, of Kilkenny, and Edward O'Dwyer, of Cappahayden, Callan, Co. Kilkenny, who were interned under the Public Safety Act in May last in connection with the wounding of two members of the Gárda Síochána, and, if not, whether he proposes to order their release.

Philip and Edward O'Dwyer are detained in custody under the provisions of the Public Safety (Powers of Arrest and Detention) Act, 1924, on strong suspicion of having been in unlawful possession of firearms and having obstructed the administration of justice. Neither prisoner has applied in the prescribed manner to have his detention reviewed by the Appeal Council, and I do not propose to order their release for the present.

Is the Minister aware that one of the prisoners was the person who informed the doctor, the priest, and the Gárda Síochána of the attack upon these police?

I am not aware of that.

If the facts are brought to his notice will the Minister make some inquiry about the matter?

Certainly.
