Vol. 9 No. 16

PRIVATE NOTICE QUESTION. - BRITISH ACTION IN EGYPT.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if any communication from the British Government was received intimating the course of action it intended to take in respect to Egypt and the Soudan; if so, whether the receipt of such intimation involves the Government of the Free State in any share of responsibility for such action; and whether the Executive Council has disclaimed responsibility for the acts of the British Government in this matter.

This question falls into three parts.

1.—It asks if this Government received any communication intimating the course of action the British Government intended to take in respect of Egypt and the Soudan. We received no ante factum statement on that.

2.—If so, whether the receipt of such intimation involves the Government of the Free State in any share of responsibility for such action. We have no responsibility in the matter.

3.—Whether the Executive Council has disclaimed responsibility for the acts of the British Government in this matter. The Executive Council have.

Will the Executive Council let it be known to the world in general that they disclaim such responsibility?

Perhaps the statement which has been made here will serve that purpose.
