Vol. 9 No. 27

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR DESTROYED FURNITURE.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that Mr. E.J. Beaumont Nesbitt, of Tubberdaly, Offaly, was made an award of £57 and £11 13s. costs by the Shaw Commission in July, 1924, for furniture destroyed early in 1921, and that on 23rd September, 1924, he was directed, through his solicitor, Mr. W. O'K. White, Edenderry, to communicate with the Department of Finance, which was acting as paymaster of the awards, and that Mr. O'K. White has received no reply to letters written to the Department on October 6th, October 27th, November 15th, 1924, the last letter being registered, and if the Minister will take steps to have Mr. Nesbitt's claim paid without delay.

An award of the amount mentioned in favour of the person named by the Deputy was received from the Compensation (Ireland) Commission on 13th August last, but as the amount was in excess of the amount mentioned on two separate occasion's by the claimant's solicitor in previous correspondence as having been recommended by the Investigator, it was considered to be a proper case for enquiry with a view to eliminating the possibility of error. Payment of such amount as may ultimately be confirmed by the Commission will be made without avoidable delay.
