asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he is aware that the De Clifford Estate, Co. Mayo, was acquired by the Congested Districts Board over twelve years ago; that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Acres, Coolaghbawn, Facefield and Derrowel on this estate, and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken to stripe and divide the large grazing ranches and untenanted lands on this estate to relieve the acute congestion existing.
WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CONGESTION IN CO. MAYO.
The majority of the holdings in the townlands referred to are over £10 in Poor Law Valuation. The holdings have not been resold to the tenants pending the acquistion of untenanted land for division. There was no untenanted land on the estate, and the only holding which was possible to acquire under the powers of the late Congested Districts Board was taken and has been disposed of to occupiers of adjoining small holdings. The question of obtaining land for enlargement is engaging the attention of the Land Commission.
