Vol. 10 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BEAUPARC COPPER MINES.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received representations from representative sources in Co. Meath, requesting him to facilitate the re-opening of Beauparc Copper Mines; whether he has given this matter consideration, and whether he will state his intentions in the matter.

I have received a copy of the resolution passed recently by the Navan Rural District Council on the subject of the Beaupare Copper Mines. I am not aware that there are any serious negotiations going on with the object of re-opening this mine. The Department is aware of the past history of the attempts to work the copper deposits in that district, and as far as can be ascertained, the whole proposition is of a very speculative nature. It is proposed, however, that an officer of the Department should visit the district at an early date when a fuller report may be available.
