Vol. 11 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CAVAN TUBERCULOSIS HOSPITAL.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether instructions were issued to the Cavan County Council to have plans prepared and to advertise for tenders for the renovation of the Tuberculosis Hospital at Cavan, and if he will state the reasons for not accepting the lowest tender and allowing the work to proceed.

The acceptance by the Cavan County Council of a tender for the completion of the Central Tuberculosis Dispensary and Hospital for advanced cases of tuberculosis at Keadew, Cavan, is dependent on the balance of the Cavan county share of the sanatorium grant being made available towards meeting the cost of the proposed work. Payments from that grant are subject to the sanction of the Minister for Finance, and the application of the County Council for assistance from the grant has been recommended to him by this Department, and is at the moment under consideration.

Is the Minister aware that a number of patients are going out of the county at the expense of the county and at great inconvenience?
