Vol. 13 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT FOR SALVAGE WORKERS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether certain employees of Messrs. Thomas Ensor and Son, salvage contractors, Cobh, have made application for a refund of moneys contributed by them towards Unemployment Insurance whilst working on salvage work on the high seas during the years 1922 and 1923, and who, because the vessel in which they were accommodated during salvage work was not registered in the Saorstát, have not according to statute received unemployment benefits in respect of the moneys so contributed, and whether he will state the result of such application.

On various dates between the 10th June and the 11th September last applications for refund of contributions paid in error have been received from certain employees of Messrs. Thomas Ensor and Sons, salvage contractors, Cobh. In some of the cases the amounts claimed have already been refunded, and it is hoped that the remainder of those claims will be paid within the next ten days.
