The Customs duty collected during the financial year 1924-25 in respect of fruits preserved in syrup amounted to £10,964. The corresponding revenue for the previous financial year, assessed on the basis of the sugar content, was £3,810.
Taking into account the increase in the cost of these fruits to the purchaser, does the Minister consider the duty is justifiable from the point of view of the revenue it produces?
I am satisfied the duty is justified for various reasons.
