Vol. 13 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR BINOCULARS.

EAMON O DUBHGHAILL

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received an application for compensation from Edward Walsh, Borris, Co. Carlow, in respect of binoculars which were taken from him in pre-Truce days, and, if so, whether any steps have been taken to expedite payment of this claim.

The claim referred to by the Deputy was received by the Indemnity Act Committee shortly after the termination of the period allowed for the lodgment of such claims. Subject to proof that the claim was lodged with a Government Department in proper time, the case will be considered by the Committee at an early date.

Will the Minister accept claims for items of this kind which were not sent in within the specified time? I know of several people who have not yet sent in their applications.

The date was extended once, if not twice, and I do not think it would be possible to receive them, unless they were lodged in some way with Government departments prior to the date fixed.
