Vol. 20 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WATER SUPPLY FOR KINSALE PIER AND FISHING STATIONS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he is aware that the Kinsale Harbour Commissioners, relying on the support promised by him to a deputation which awaited on him last February to urge the Government to make a grant of one-third of the cost of providing an adequate water supply to the pier and fishing stations at Kinsale, have, in co-operation with the Kinsale Urban District Council, actually carried out the work; whether the Minister is further aware that the need for this water supply was urgent, in view of the fact that steam fishing vessels operating from Kinsale were compelled to go periodically to Cork for water for their boilers, and that herring curers were without an adequate supply of water for their operations on the quay of Kinsale; whether he is further aware that the funds of the Kinsale Harbour Commissioners are inadequate to meet the cost of the work which must fall on them if a State contribution is not forthcoming; and whether, in view of these facts, he is prepared to approach the Minister for Finance in order to secure a favourable revision of his decision declining to approve of a State grant for this very necessary work in developing the fishing industry of Kinsale.

Mr. LYNCH

I am aware of the facts as stated in the Deputy's question, and I am making further representations to the Department of Finance on the subject of a State grant.
