374 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if she will outline the level of alcoholism as reported to public hospitals in Ireland in (a) 1987, (b) 1988, (c) 1989, (d) 1990 and (e) 1991; broken down into the categories of (1) male and (2) female.
Data relating to the delivery of psychiatric services including the level of alcoholism as reported to public hospitals is compiled on an annual basis by the Health Research Board and forwarded to my Department.
The latest comprehensive data available is in respect of the year ending 31 December 1988. The number of admissions for alcohol abuse and alcoholic psychosis in relation to 1987 and 1988 is as follows:
