Vol. 20 No. 20

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF GALWAY AND MAYO ESTATES.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether the following estates have been acquired by the Land Commission with a view to division: Mrs. Mary Strachan estate, Tuam; Hessian and Fitzpatrick estate, Frenchgrove, Annefield, Hollymount; if not, are any steps being taken to have them so acquired; if so, what is the present position of the matter.

The estate of Mary Strachan comprises freehold lands in the townland of Blackacre, also lands situate in Killaloonty and other townlands, subject to Land Purchase Annuity; the owner was requested on 7th June last to lodge particulars under Section 40 of the Land Act, 1923, of the lands to which the Act applies; these particulars have not yet been furnished. A reminder has been issued. The lands of Ticooly (Carr), Luganagh, Killeen, were purchased by Patrick Hessian under the Land Purchase Acts in connection with the sale of the estate of Lord Clonbrock to the tenants under the Land Act, 1903. The Land Commission have taken proceedings for the acquisition of the lands under Section 24 of the Land Act, 1923, and issued an offer for the purchase of the lands which has not been accepted. The price of the lands will now, in default of agreement, be fixed and published.

The holding of Nora Hessian, Thos. Hessian, and Thos. M. Murphy, in the townlands of Callow, Cartrondoogan, Liscune Upper and Loughaclerybeg, of William Hessian in the townland of Callow, and John Hessian in the townlands of Callow, Lecarrow, Mactully, all situate on the estate of O'Neal Segrave (S 1936), County Galway, will be retained under Section 28 (6) (d) of the Land Act, 1923, and resumption proceedings will be instituted in respect of these three holdings.

Lands of Annefield, County Mayo.— The owner of these lands holds other lands at Greaghans. He has recently accepted lands in County Dublin as an exchange for the Greaghan lands.

Lands of Hollymount Demesne.— Proceedings were instituted under the provisions of the Irish Land Act, 1903, for the acquisition of the lands of Lehinch Demesne and Hollymount Demesne, County Mayo, which are subject to Land Purchase Annuity, and these lands were published in "Iris Oifigiúil" in a provisional list of lands which, if not excluded in consequence of a valid objection, would become vested in the Land Commission on the appointed day. The owners appealed against the acquisition of the lands and negotiations are in progress with a view to acquiring these lands by means of an exchange for lands situate elsewhere.

No proceedings in respect of lands of Frenchgrove can be identified.
