asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what was the number of immigrants into the Free State in each of the years 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925 and 1926.
WRITTEN ANSWERS. - FREE STATE IMMIGRANTS.
An immigrant for statistical purposes is a person who previously resided in another country and arrives in the Saorstát with intent to reside here for a period of not less than one year. It has not been practicable to demand statistical particulars of immigration from passengers arriving from Northern Ireland or Great Britain, but such particulars are collected from all persons arriving at Saorstát ports from other countries. The totals of immigrants so ascertained are:—
1924 |
3,261 |
1925 |
2,791 |
1926 |
1,983 |
Particulars are not available for earlier years.
It may be desired to know the total number of aliens landed and embarked in the years 1923 to 1927 (30th June) at Saorstát ocean ports. The aliens landed include persons whose intended period of residence was less than one year, and who consequently are not within the definition of immigrants.—
