Vol. 21 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FISH OVA FOR KILLARNEY LAKES.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether, in view of the fact that fishing experts have declared Killarney Lakes to be one of the finest fishing centres in Europe, he would consider the advisability of giving a grant to purchase ova for the existing hatching boxes.

I am prepared to make a grant of salmon ova from one of the State hatcheries to any responsible body who will satisfy me that they are in a position to deal with it.

Would the Minister be prepared to consider the findings of the Commission appointed in 1921 by the First Dáil in relation to Killarney Lakes?

Although I did read the report of that Commission at the time I cannot say that I quite remember the recommendations in regard to Killarney Lakes. I have, as a matter of fact, an application from the present Killarney Board of Conservators in regard to salmon fry—not salmon ova—and that is receiving at the moment the attention of my Department.

If the political views of any members of any Commission or any deputation or any bodies making representation to the Minister differ from the Minister's will they still receive consideration from him?

I think that is a question that does not require an answer.

Well, I think it does. I do not know whether it is in order——

No, it is not.
