Vol. 21 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSIONS CLAIM (MOUNTRATH).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can give detailed particulars of the alleged income of Joseph Peavoy, Derrynob, Mountrath, Leix, or the reasons why he declined to sanction payment of the old age pension allowance recommended by the local Pension Committee; whether he is aware that Peavoy is blind and lame, and whether he is prepared to order one of his General Inspectors to inquire further into this case on the spot or sanction payment of the amount already allowed by the local Pension Committee.

It was reported that this claimant lived with his brother, who was in possession of two farms (combined Poor Law valuation £25) comprising 47 statute acres. Eleven acres were under tillage and the usual stock was kept. It was considered that the value of the benefits and privileges enjoyed by the claimant on this substantial holding were in excess of the statutory limit (£39 5s. 0d. a year) for the receipt of a pension, and the claim was accordingly disallowed on 20th August, 1927. I have no power to reconsider decisions given in pension cases.

Would the Minister reconsider the case if this individual is put out on the roadside by his brother?
