Vol. 21 No. 9

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSIONS CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state the reasons why an old age pension claim made by Daniel Rafter, Graignevalla, Errill, Ballybrophy, Leix, was declined by the local (Rathdowney) Pensions Committee, and if he can also state the reason why his wife's pension allowance was reduced by 2s. per week.

Decisions given by Pension Sub-Committees in pension cases do not come before the Minister for Local Government and Public Health for adjudication except on appeal. So far as can be ascertained no appeals have been received in either of these cases. The relative papers are possibly with the Pension Officer, and the Revenue Commissioners, to whom a copy of the Deputy's question is being forwarded, may, therefore, be able to furnish the desired information.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received an old age pension claim from Katherine Flanagan, Curraghvarna, Banagher, Offaly, and if he is now in a position to sanction payment of the amount allowed by the local Pensions Committee.

An appeal in this case is at present under consideration. Further inquiries are being made as to the claimant's age, and it is hoped that it will be possible to give a decision at an early date.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received an application for an old age pension from Mrs. Mary Daly, Curraughlassa, Ferbane, Offaly, and if he will authorise payment of the amount allowed by the local Pensions Committee.

An appeal was determined in this case on the 7th July, 1927, and the claim was disallowed, as it was not clear on the evidence submitted that the claimant had attained the statutory age. No Birth or Baptismal Certificate was produced, and she was merely recorded as being of full age when married in May, 1890. Affidavits forwarded in connection with the case were not considered sufficient to justify the allowance of a pension, and I have now no further functions in connection with it.
