Vol. 21 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DOUGLAS ESTATE, CO.LONGFORD.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that for over twenty years uneconomic holders and landless men have been agitating for the acquisition and division by the Land Commission of the Douglas Ranch, County Longford, and whether it is proposed to acquire the said ranch, and, if so, whether steps will be taken to expedite matters in that direction; further, whether it is proposed to accept as a tenant purchaser a farmer who is in possession of 400 acres of the best land of the ranch, and who also has a large farm in another county.

The lands referred to are tenanted lands on the estate of N. W. S. Douglas which is pending for sale under the Land Act, 1923. The estate is being dealt with under the Act by the Commissioners and the lands referred to have been retained, and the Land Commission proposes to take proceedings for the resumption of these holdings.
