Vol. 21 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. LONGFORD TURBARY SUPPLIES.

asked the Minister for Fisheries when he proposes taking over and distributing the bog known as Culrey, on the Dopping Hepenstall property, Aughnacliffe, Longford; and whether, having regard to the fact that promises have been made to this effect to the farmers of the district of Aughakine, for a considerable time, the Minister will expedite the acquisition and division of this bog before turf cutting begins, to enable them to cut their supplies on this bog, and not have them put to the inconvenience of travelling from six to seven miles for their supplies of turbary.

The Land Commission do not propose to acquire the bog referred to.

What is the reason for not acquiring the bog?

This bog is required for the owner's use, and I understand that there is plenty of bog available for the people referred to.

I can assure the Minister that there is not plenty of bog available within six or seven miles. This bog is 40 acres in extent and within immediate reach of these people. The only reasonable objection I heard was that of trespass.
