Vol. 21 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRAINAGE OF SHASKIN RIVER.

asked the Minister for Finance whether plans for the drainage of the Shaskin River, near Ballymahon, have been received from the Longford County Council, and if he will state when a decision in regard to the scheme is likely to be made.

to theMINISTER for FINANCE (Mr. Burke): The Commissioners of Public Works in December, 1925, received a petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, from the Longford County Council in respect of the drainage of the Shaskin River. Owing to the large number (529) of petitions received under the Act, and the limited staff of engineers available for the work of investigating them, it has not yet been possible to deal with all the petitions, and this particular proposal has not yet been investigated by the Commissioners. It is not at present possible to say when a decision in regard to it can be reached. An inspection of the district will, however, be made at an early date.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say how long it will be before the Commission can investigate it?

Mr. BURKE

I could not state that definitely. It will be at an early date.
