Vol. 21 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GOVERNMENT BOOT CONTRACT.

PEADAIR O DUBHGHAILL

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that a Government contract for boots has been given to Messrs. Adams Bros. (Raunds) Ltd., Wellingborough; if he will state what was the class of boot specified and the quantity under this contract, and what were the grounds for placing such a contract outside the Saorstát.

The contract referred to was for 700 pairs of boots for boy messengers. No quotation was received from any of the Saorstát firms, although special measures were taken to obtain tenders from them, and in the circumstances there was no alternative but to allot the contract to the firm which tendered at the lowest price.
