Vol. 21 No. 18

LEWIN (GALWAY) ESTATE. - FOURTH REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF SELECTION.

The Committee of Selection reported that they had made the following nominations:—
1. On the Joint Restaurant Committee:—Deputies Brady, A. Byrne, Cassidy, P.S. Doyle and J. White.
2. On the Joint Library Committee:—Deputies Alton, Law and Moore.

Would it be in order to make a suggestion to the Committee at this stage?

It would be in order to refer the report back to the Committee.

I just wanted to refer to a certain thing that the Committee might attend to during the Recess. When the House re-assembles they will not have an opportunity of doing it.

The Deputy could make representations to the Committee.

What I want to refer to is this. The members of our Party understood that there was a proposal to shut off the bar from the restaurant, and that it would be done during the Recess.

The Deputy could send someone to attend a meeting of the Committee. The Committee could have a meeting to-morrow. The fact that the House is not sitting would not preclude the Committee from meeting.

resumed the Chair.

With regard to the restaurant, a sum of money has actually been voted for the erection of a new Restaurant. The plans, drawn up last year, meet Deputy de Valera's suggestion. The Committee could, of course, meet during the Recess. But I doubt, pending the erection of the new restaurant, if it would be feasible to take the step the Deputy suggests. It would, I think, involve some difficulty, but the suggestion, of course, could be considered.

Would it be feasible to get rid of the bar altogether?

That is not for me, of course. It is a matter for the Dáil.

In due time we hope to propose that.

Prohibition?

Ordered: That the report of the Committee lie on the Table.
