Vol. 21 No. 18

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CONGESTION IN BALLYHAUNIS DISTRICT.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Ballinastokagh, Bracklaghboy, Carrowmacintyre and Carrowkeel in the electoral division of Ballyhaunis, and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Irish Land Commission to acquire the large grazing ranch known as Carrowbowney-Ballyveale farm, held by Mr. Martin Curran, for the purpose of relieving congestion in those townlands.

The Commissioners are aware of the congestion in the district referred to in the Deputy's question.

The lands referred to would appear to be the holdings of Mr. Martin Curran, in the townlands of Carrowhawny and Ballykinave, which he has purchased as tenant purchaser under the Land Purchase Acts. The Land Commission have had the lands inspected and have instituted compulsory proceedings for the acquisition of the Ballykinave lands, comprising 452a. 3r. 10p. The owner lodged an objection to the acquisition of the lands which is pending.
