asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a return to the Dáil of the expenditure of the £150,000 Unemployment Grant, stating the amount given to each county, the works on which it was expended, and the number of unemployed persons for whom work was provided.
WRITTEN ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT GRANT EXPENDITURE.
The amount of the Relief Scheme Vote allocated to each county and the nature of the works in respect of which the allocations have been made are shown in the annexed statements, A and B, respectively. The total estimated expenditure on the schemes to be undertaken by local authorities in respect of which grants amounting to £83,735 and one loan (free of interest) of £4,000 have been sanctioned is £441,000. Including works supervised by the Land Commission and other departments, the gross total estimated expenditure on schemes undertaken as a result of the allocation of the amount voted is approximately £503,000. I have no information as to the number of unemployed persons for whom work is being provided on the schemes to the cost of which contributions have been sanctioned.
