Vol. 22 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FLOODING IN CO. WEXFORD.

Mr. RICHARD CORISH

asked the Minister for Fisheries if a memorial has been received by his Department from residents in the Boira district, County Wexford, asking that something should be done to prevent flooding in that area, and if he will say what steps will be taken in the matter.

Mr. RODDY

The memorial referred to has been received. It would appear from this memorial that the matter of flooding mentioned therein is one coming within the provisions of the Drainage Bill at present under consideration by the Oireachtas or the Drainage Acts of 1924 and 1925, rather than one to be dealt with by the Land Commission out of their limited resources for such purposes. Before coming to a final decision in the matter, however, the Land Commission require further information, and for this purpose they have instructed one of their inspectors to furnish a report.

Mr. CORISH

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state when it is proposed to send an inspector there?

Mr. RODDY

An inspector has been instructed to visit the area and report.

Mr. CORISH

Will the Parliamentary Secretary see that that is done in the near future? I think he will agree that there is no use in sending an inspector when the weather gets dry.
