Vol. 22 No. 5

WRITTEN QUESTIONS. - HIGGINSTOWN AND KNOCKMANT LANDS.

Mr. PATRICK W. SHAW

asked the Minister for Fisheries when the lands of Higginstown and Knockmant, will be handed over to the selected tenants.

Mr. LYNCH

Proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of part of the lands of Higginstown, on the estate of Colonel Purdon Winter, County Westmeath, containing 114 acres. These lands were published in a provisional list of lands which, if not excluded in consequence of a valid objection, will become vested in the Land Commission on the appointed day. The price of the lands has been determined, and a scheme for the division of the lands is about to be prepared.

A further portion of the lands of Higginstown, comprising 199a. 0r. 39p., was held by Colonel Purdon Winter as tenant on the estate of Eliza Lundy. An order has been made by the Judicial Commissioner for the resumption of this holding, and the Land Commission hope to be in a position to take possession thereunder in the near future.

The lands of Knockmant, containing 161 acres, are in the occupation of Colonel Purdon Winter as a tenant on the estate of Victor A.T. Shaen Carter (S 3006), which is being dealt with by the Land Commission. Proceedings for the resumption of this holding are pending.
