Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SEIZURE OF A BICYCLE.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that a bicycle belonging to Patrick Kielty, Cleaheen Cootehall, was seized by military from Carrick-on-Shannon on 11th July, 1922; that compensation was refused on the grounds that the bicycle "was used for irregular purposes," and if he will state what the alleged purposes were.

I am aware that Mr. Kielty's bicycle was seized as stated. Compensation was refused on the grounds that he allowed the bicycle to be used by irregulars for carrying despatches.

Will the Minister indicate what proof he can advance of the statement he has made, that the bicycle was used for such purposes?

I am quite satisfied.

What action will the Minister take if we can produce proof that bicycles so seized were actually used for private purposes by the sisters, brothers and other relatives of the officers who seized them? Will the Minister state what action he will take?

I will be interested in any information that is given me.

If the information is supplied, will the Minister take any action? If the information is supplied on oath, what action will he take?

It will depend on what the people who make the oaths consider oaths.

Answer the question.

What does the Minister mean by the word "irregulars?"
