Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether unemployment benefit is being paid to Matthew Colfer, Clonmines, Wellington Bridge, Wexford, and, if not, for what reason.

Matthew Colfer, of Clonmines, Wellington Bridge, Wexford, claimed unemployment benefit for the first time on the 22nd of the last month, and as the Unemployment Insurance Acts do not allow any payment to be made in respect of the first week of unemployment, it will be understood that no benefit could be payable on the claim in respect of any day before the 29th ultimo.

The claimant has forty-eight unexhausted contributions to his credit in the Unemployment Fund, and benefit has been authorised in respect of those contributions and will be paid as from the day following the completion of the waiting week provided the conditions for the receipt of benefit are fulfilled.

This man made an application as far back as the 5th November last year.

I am not aware that he made any application before the 22nd of the last month. That was the first intimation we had.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary investigate the matter?
