Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TECHNICAL CLASSES FOR CIGARETTE WORKERS.

asked the Minister for Education if any technical classes, relating to cigarette manufacture, were held in Dublin by the Department of Technical Instruction prior to the establishment of the Dublin branches of Messrs. Wills and Co. and Messrs. Players and Co., and, if so, whether he will state the number of workers in these factories who took advantage of these classes.

As I pointed out to the Deputy yesterday, technical classes are held not by the Department of Education, but by the local technical committees.

No technical classes in cigarette manufacture were held in Dublin prior to the establishment of the factories named.

I doubt if the work of the ordinary employees in these factories calls for such technical skill or training as would have justified the local committees in organising classes of the kind suggested.
