Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REFUSAL OF FIREARMS CERTIFICATE.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state why a firearms certificate was refused to Mr. Thomas Keogh, Bolinrush, Carnew, County Wexford, which certificate was necessary to enable Mr. Keogh to keep a shot-gun for the protection of his crops.

In August, 1926, the Gárda Síochána searched the house of Thomas Keogh for concealed firearms. A shot-gun was found and seized under the Firearms Act, 1925. Thomas Keogh thereupon applied to the Superintendent for a firearm certificate. The Superintendent was not satisfied, as required by the Firearms Act, that the applicant could be permitted to have possession of firearms and ammunition without danger to the public safety or to the peace, and he refused the application. Keogh has not made any further application for a certificate.

Will the Minister, if a further application is made, see that it is attended to?

If a further application is made the matter will be reconsidered.

What are the necessary qualifications in order to get a certificate?

Membership of Cumann na nGaedheal.

I suggest the Deputy should read the statute.
