Vol. 22 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILKEE LANDING SLIP.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that representations have been made to his Department as to the state of the landing slip and shelter wall at Kilkee, County Clare, as far back as last September, and that his Department promised then to send an engineer to report on the matter; if he will state why this engineer has not called, and whether the suggested examination will be made at once.

Owing to the extensive round of duties upon which the engineer to my Department has been engaged during the past few months he has been obliged to postpone, among other matters, the promised inspection of the landing place at Kilkee. This inspection, however, is due to be made within the next three weeks.

Mr. HOGAN

Is the Minister aware that the Clare County Council has allocated a certain amount of money for the repair of this landing-slip and shelter-wall, and does he not consider it advisable that the County Council and the Department of Fisheries should co-operate and do a good job together rather than having the Fishery Department doing a job in three months' time and the County Council in a month's time?

I have no knowledge as to the operations of the Clare County Council in this matter but, as I have said, a special engineer has been called on to make inquiries here, there and everywhere around the coast, and the inspection of Kilkee has now been fixed for a day within the next three weeks.
