Vol. 22 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNTENANTED LAND LEASES.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that delay exists in arriving at decisions under Section 11 of the Land Act, 1927, where owners of parcels of untenanted land which are held under a fee-farm grant, renewable leases, or leases for long terms, apply to the Land Commission for an order that the parcel shall vest in the Land Commission on the appointed day, and that in the meantime landlords are proceeding against such owners for arrears of rent which, in the case of an order being made vesting the land in the Land Commission, shall not be payable by the vendor; and whether steps will be taken to expedite matters, and save owners of such land from unnecessary expenses.

To enable the Land Commission to judge whether or not a case comes within the provisions of Section 11 of the Land Act, 1927, the lands have to be inspected before the application under the section is heard by the Commissioners. The applications lodged with the Land Commission are being dealt with as rapidly as possible.
