Vol. 22 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WEXFORD BENEFIT CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce why unemployment benefit was refused to James Cullen, Cooraun, Edermine, County Wexford.

James Cullen, Cooraun, Edermine, Co. Wexford, made a claim to benefit on the 2nd May, 1927, in respect of which he proved unemployment for one day only. He made a further claim to benefit on the 7th January, 1928, on which he furnished evidence of unemployment for a period of nineteen days. He renewed his claim on the 5th March, 1928, but signed the Unemployed Register on one day only. As a waiting period of six days must be completed on each claim before benefit is payable, Mr. Cullen's claim of the 2nd May, 1927, and the 5th March, 1928, were ineffective. In respect of the claim which he made on the 7th January, 1928, he received payment in respect of thirteen days, that is to say, for the nineteen days on which he signed, less the waiting period of six days.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this man has been told that he is to draw no more benefit, as he owes something to the State?

He got the full benefit of everything he was entitled to, according to the evidence before us.

I am asking if the Parliamentary Secretary is aware that this man was told on the last day he got benefit that he would not get any more, as he owed a certain amount to the State?

No, I am not.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary investigate the matter?

Put up the facts.
