Vol. 23 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RELIEF OF UMEMPLOYMENT (DUBLIN).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of persons at present employed on relief work in the City of Dublin; and if he will expedite the consideration of proposals which will give further immediate employment to the unemployed.

The answer to the first part of the question is 893. As regards the second part, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to him by the Minister for Finance on the matter on the 29th ultimo.

Mr. BYRNE

Can the Minister state whether this work at the present moment is being held up, and if there are any grants still at the disposal of the City Commissioners?

I am not aware of any work being held up. There are 893 men being employed, and that is pretty good evidence of the work not being held up.

Mr. BYRNE

Is the Minister aware that no men have been called to this relief work for the past month, and there was a promise that these men would get their turn?

The Minister for Finance showed that this work would continue for some time, but that it could not continue indefinitely.
