Vol. 23 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DONEGAL RELIEF GRANTS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he can state (a) what amount of money has been expended in Co. Donegal by the Irish Land Commission out of the £150,000 relief grant; (b) whether the work on those schemes in Donegal which have been approved by the Irish Land Commission will be begun immediately; (c) whether it is the intention of the Irish Land Commission to have the £400 provisionally allocated to Inishowen out of that grant, expended on those schemes, situated in Urris, Clonmany, and Desertegney districts, which have been submitted to that Department for consideration.

The amount expended by the Land Commission in Co. Donegal out of the Relief Schemes Vote, 1927-28, to 31st March last is £4,400. Since that date no money is available for expenditure by the Land Commission out of the Relief Schemes Vote.

Such works in Inishowen as are necessary in connection with the improvement of estates purchased by the Land Commission will be undertaken by them.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the schemes submitted and mentioned in this question were not inspected by the Land Commission inspector in Donegal along with the other schemes in the other parts of the constituency, and that there has been no money expended in that peninsula out of this relief grant?

I think some of the schemes in which the Deputy is interested will be undertaken by the Land Commission when they are carrying out improvements on certain estates which they are about to acquire in that particular area.
