Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TARMONBARRY WEIR WALL.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received a copy of a resolution passed by the Trustees of the Rinn and Black River Drainage Board, Co. Leitrim, drawing attention to the necessity for the immediate removal of the weir wall on the Shannon at Tarmonbarry; and whether he will take steps to have the weir wall removed, and so prevent flooding on the upper reaches of the River Shannon.

Mr. BOURKE

The Commissioners of Public Works have received a copy of the resolution of the Trustees of the Rinn and Black River drainage district, asking that the level of the weir at Tarmonbarry be altered. It was explained to a deputation that was received by the Parliamentary Secretary on the 16th December, 1926, that the removal of the weir would have no considerable effect on the flooding on the Shannon unless the channel of the river were improved between Rooskey and Tarmonbarry. These works would be very expensive, costing quite possibly £100,000.
