Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT IN LEIX AND OFFALY.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state the amount of money paid as unemployment benefit in the counties of (1) Leix, (2) Offaly, during the year 1927 and from January 1st, 1928, to 30th April, 1928, to (a) married men and (b) unmarried men.

It is not possible without detailed investigation of each individual claim to determine the amount of unemployment benefit received by married and unmarried claimants respectively. The following figures represent the total amounts paid in benefit at the local offices situated in the counties of Leix and Offaly during the year 1927, and from 1st January, 1928, to 30th April, 1928:

These totals include benefit paid to persons resident outside the counties named from local offices inside them, and exclude benefit paid to persons resident inside them whose claims were lodged at offices in neighbouring counties. The local office areas do not correspond precisely to county areas.
