Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG WOMEN WORKERS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will consider the advisability of establishing a committee to consider and report on the measures necessary for the relief of unemployment among women workers.

I would refer the Deputy to the answer given to Deputy Law on the 22nd March. I do not consider that the setting up of such a committee as is suggested would serve any useful purpose. Important aspects of the question of unemployment among women have already been dealt with in the report of the Commission on Technical Education, and other aspects are so closely related to the general problem of industrial and commercial development that an unemployment committee could not deal with them effectively.

In view of the Minister's statement that important aspects of the question have already been dealt with by this Committee, does he not think it strange that the Committee made no recommendations in their report relative to the relief of unemployment among women?

That would be rather a matter for the people who are pressing that we should receive suggestions for the relief of unemployment among women.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating of it. We have nothing to go on.
