Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BILL-POSTING IN DUBLIN.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the Dublin City Commissioners, in reply to a recent petition from residents, stated that they had no power to prevent the use of a wall at the corner of Dorset Street and Upper Gardiner Street for the purpose of bill-posting; and whether he will consider the advisability of introducing proposals for legislation to confer on local authorities power to regulate poster advertising.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question by Deputy Alfred Byrne on the 18th ultimo.

Unfortunately I have not the answer given to Deputy Alfred Byrne before me at the moment, but is it not a fact that that answer indicated that the Minister was of opinion there were sufficient powers in the hands of the Commissioners to deal with a matter of this kind?

No, it said the position was that I had no representations of any kind from local authorities that they had not sufficient powers.
