Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ELECTION OF FISHERY CONSERVATORS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he is prepared to carry out the promise stated to have been made in 1925 to set up polling stations at Banteer, Mallow, Fermoy and Lismore, for the convenience of all duly licensed anglers, especially those of limited means, to enable them to record their votes without imposing undue expenses on them.

A promise, as set out in the question, was not made. It was promised to consider possible means of facilitating voting at elections by dividing the district into a greater number of electoral divisions. While I am sensible that the abolition of the proxy vote at elections of conservators may have imposed hardship on some individual electors, I am of opinion that such subdivision would not be in the best interests of the district as a whole.
