Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TELEGRAPH SERVICE.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state (a) how the increased revenue amounting to £66,000 which it is estimated will be derived from the increase in the cost of telegrams from 1/- to 1/6 is computed; and (b) what allowance, if any, has been made for decreased traffic in this service.

The estimated revenue resulting from the increase in the minimum charge for ordinary telegrams is based upon the present volume of traffic and on the assumption that no great decrease in the number of telegrams will result from the introduction of the revised rates. Any decrease in traffic that may eventuate will be largely offset by corresponding reductions in cost of handling.
