CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PAYMENTS UNDER ARTICLE 10 OF THE TREATY.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state (a) the total amount paid to residents in Saorstát Eireann in the years ending March, 31st, 1926, 1927 and 1928, respectively, by way of compensation allowances under Article 10 of the Treaty of 6th December, 1921 (excluding the late Dublin Metropolitan Police Force); (b) the total sums paid in the same years to residents as aforesaid by way of additional allowances and gratuities under Article 10 of the Treaty of the 6th December, 1921; and (c) the total amount paid in the same years, to residents as aforesaid, by way of compensation under Article 10 of the Treaty, to members of the late Dublin Metropolitan Police Force.

The answer to the Deputy's question is as follows:—

(a) The total amount paid by way of compensation allowances under Article 10 of the Treaty to residents in Saorstát Eireann was for the year 1925-26, £132,850; for the year 1926-27, £133,000, and for the year 1927-28, £141,450.

(b) The payments for the same years in respect of additional allowances and gratuities under Article 10 of the Treaty to residents in Saorstát Eireann were, for the year 1925-26, £4,018; for the year 1926-27, £13,044; for the year 1927-28, £4,180.

(c) The compensation allowances paid to members of the late Dublin Metropolitan Police Force resident in Saorstát Eireann were, for the year 1925-26, £66,350; for the year 1926-27, £65,600; for the year 1927-28, £63,650.
