Vol. 24 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY SERVICE PENSIONS ACT.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state (a) the number of applications received under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1927; (b) the number of pensions granted; (c) the number rejected on the grounds that disease was not attributable to service during the statutory period 1st April, 1922, to the 30th September, 1924; and (d) the number of claims that tuberculosis had been contracted or aggravated during the period of service.

I assume that the Deputy refers to the Army Pensions Act, 1927. The number of applications received under that Act is 2,407. The awards to date are as follows:—Pensions, 48; Gratuities, 32; Allowances to dependents, 10; Gratuities to dependents, 18. The number of applications disallowed on the grounds that disease was not attributable to service within the statutory period is 55.

I am not in a position to answer the last part of the question at the moment, and its preparation would require considerable work. No doubt the information will be available when the 2,407 cases have all been dealt with.
