Vol. 24 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY SERVICE PENSIONS.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state if Thomas E. McDermot, merchant, Longford, is the man described as Thomas E. McDermot, Longford, on the list of names supplied by his Department as receiving a pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1925; and if he will state the years of service and the service rendered during each particular year which entitle this man to such pension.

The person to whom a pension is being paid is Thomas E. McDermot, White House, Longford. The years of service which entitle him to his pension make up the period from the 1st April, 1921, to the 26th May, 1923. The Board of Assessors reported to me that Thomas McDermot rendered service as required by the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924, throughout that period.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state if Michael McKeon, Kilshrewley, Ballinalee. County Longford, is the man described as Michael McKeon, Longford, in the list of names supplied by his Department, as receiving a pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1925; and whether he can state the years of service and the service rendered during each particular year which entitle this man to such pension.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

The years of service which entitled Michael McKeon to his pension make up the following periods:—

One-fourth of the period from 1st April, 1918, to 31st March, 1919.

Three-fourths of the period from 1st April, 1919, to 31st March, 1920.

Entire period from 1st April, 1920, to 12th May, 1923.

The Board of Assessors reported to me that Michael McKeon rendered service as required by the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924, throughout the above periods.

Will the Minister say whether it was for services rendered during the Black-and-Tan period or for setting Pat Connolly's cabbages?

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state if Cornelius Donohoe, Aughagrayagh, Ballinalee, County Longford, is the person described as Cornelius Donohoe, Longford, in the list of names supplied by his Department, as receiving a pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1925, and whether he can state the years of service and the service rendered during each particular year which entitle this man to such pension.

The person to whom a pension is being paid is Cornelius Donohoe, Lislea, Ballinalee, Co. Longford. The years of service which entitle him to his pension make up the period from the 1st April, 1921, to the 30th September, 1923. The Board of Assessors reported to me that Cornelius Donohoe rendered Service as required by the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924, throughout that period.

asked the Minister for Defence whether the pensioner who is described by the Minister, in a reply to a recent question regarding service pensions, as Seán O Murthuile, resident outside the Saorstát, and in receipt of a pension of £350 (three hundred and fifty pounds) per annum, is the person known as Major-General Seán O Muirthuile, who was Quarter-master-General of the Free State Army in 1923; and, if so, whether he will state the years of service, and the nature of the service rendered in each particular year, in respect of which this pension was granted.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The years of service in respect of which the pension was granted make up the period from the 23rd April, 1916, to the 30th September, 1923. The Board of Assessors reported to me that Seán O Muirthuile rendered service as required by the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924, throughout that period.
