CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY GUARD DUTY.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state (a) the average number of infantry privates available for guard duty in the Dublin district in the month of May, 1928; and (b) the number of men required daily for guard duty during the same month in the same district.

The average number of privates available for guard duty in the Dublin district in the month of May was 596 up to the 11th May, and 521 after that date.

The number of men required daily for guard duty was 202.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he can state the number of men in the National Army charged with the offence of sleeping while on sentry duty in the Dublin district during the year ending May 31st, 1928; and the number of cases in which men have been punished for this offence.

The number of soldiers charged with the offence of sleeping while on sentry duty in the Dublin district during the year ended 31st May last is four. In three of the cases the men have been punished, and in the other case the man is awaiting trial by courtmartial.
