Vol. 24 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PAPER MANUFACTURE IN THE SAORSTAT.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the Saorstát paper manufacturers, in pursuance of their application for a Customs Duty on imported packing and wrapping paper, have lodged with the Tariff Commission a statement of their case, and paid the statutory fee; whether the proprietor of the Clondalkin Paper Mills, Co. Dublin, has also made application for a Customs Duty on imported cardboard; and whether he can state when the Tariff Commission will begin to hear evidence in connection with the application.

I referred this application to the Tariff Commission on the 14th January last. I am informed that the applicants lodged their detailed case in support of it on the 12th May and paid the prescribed fee on the 13th of the present month. The date of the sitting of the Commission to hear evidence will depend upon whether the application is opposed. A notice will appear in to-morrow's "Iris Oifigiúil" and daily Press announcing the application, and requesting persons whose interests are likely to be affected by it and who desire to give evidence in connection with it, to communicate with the Commission. If persons of the representative character required by the Tariff Commission Act give notice of their desire to oppose the application, reasonable time must be afforded to them to prepare their case.
